Ruger recently announced a recall of a select batch of their Ruger American Rimfire rifles. The batch they’ve recalled are rifles chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum (.22 WMR) as well as .17 Hornady Magnum (.17 HMR) that were manufactured from November 17, 2013 to January 8, 2014. They’ve also included a diagram showing which rifles are affected by the recall.

ruger-recall

The rifles affected are missing a vent hole, according to Ruger, “the hole does not serve any function during normal operation of the rifle, but is a safety feature and may help vent gas in the event of a problem such as a ruptured case head or bore obstruction, for example. We want to recall the rifles and add the vent hole.”  If your Ruger American Rimfire rifle doesn’t have a vent hole on the left side of the chamber then you should send your rifle back to Ruger. All their contact info as well as more info on the recall can be found at Ruger.com

ak-47

This select fire bad boy cost a little more than the typical WASR-10 at your local gun store. It’s a Vietnam War bring back rifle picked up near the Mekong Delta. It has a milled receiver, front folding spike bayonet and even comes with the original cleaning kit. What’s the asking price? A cool $55,995, but if you can pay cash they’ll cut that down by $1,000. Check it out at WesternFirearms.com.

An super rare documented original Chi-Com bring back AK47 from Vietnam. This weapon was picked up off a tributary of the Mekong Delta in the summer of 1968 by a member of the US Mobil Riverine Force known as “Brown Water Sailors. There is an article on this weapon in the April 2002 issue of Small Arms Review, Vol 5, No 7, page 89. It is a milled receiver weapon from factory 66 in excellent condition. It has the original front folding spike bayonet and still has the original cleaning kit in the buttstock. The new owner will receive a copy of the letter from the US Vet that brought this weapon back to the USA and registered it in the 1968 Amnesty Act. The form 4 that it is registered on shows the manufacturer as “Russia”. If you are a top end weapon collector, you will know what this is.

pws-ebt

Primary Weapons Systems recently released their new Enhanced Buffer Tube for ARs chambered in .308 Winchester. Their new EBT in .308 is compatible with standard AR-15 buffers and is machined from one piece of 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum. It eliminates the use of a castle nut with a unique indexing screw and plate setup to ensure correct alignment with the buffer tube. The PWS EBT also features QD attachments machined directly into the tube as well as fluted sides and drain holes to allow water to escape. One downfall to early piston designs for the AR-15 was carrier tilt. The EBT features a lip that extends into the AR receiver that supports the carrier and eliminates carrier tilt making it a great option for piston driven ARs. There’s no official word on a price as of yet, however their other Enhanced Buffer Tubes retail for $149.95 to $199.95. Check out PrimaryWeapons.com for more info.

Earlier this year CAA introduced their new Secubit Gun Shot Counter system that records every shot of your gun. For those who like to keep meticulous records of their shot count the Secubit GS-Counter records how many rounds you’ve fired, your pace of fire and the exact dates and times you’ve made each shot. All the info can then be viewed and analyzed on a computer or tablet via USB or on Android phones via their app (an iPhone version is in the works). Currently Secubit offers a model for Glocks as well as a universal Picatinny model for the AR-15, AK-47 and other rifles with versions for more models on the way soon.

The GS-Counter™ is a new revolutionary system that enables the real-time recording and storing of gunfire data. The GS-Counter™ is based on measuring energy along time, fitted with advanced software that automatically collects and stores gunfire data, making it available for off-line analysis of the user and the weapon performances. The GS-Counter™ distinguishes between shots, cocking of the gun and other events that should be recorded. The data can be easily viewed in a computer, tablet or mobile phone which is connected to the GS-Counter™. The light weight device (GS-Counter™) provides you with the capability of a true “black-box” for your gun.

M249 SAW 10/22 Kit and Hypergat Trigger System

m249-1022-saw-kit

Down in the lower levels of the SHOT Show is where you’ll usually find newer and smaller companies. While I was browsing I stumbled upon a booth from Flashco who were showing off their new M249 SAW conversion kit for the Ruger 10/22. It’s made of both metal and polymer materials and weights in at 12 pounds, it also comes with a collapsible stock and bipod. The booth rep claimed it took no more than 30 minutes to drop in your 10/22 rifle. It retails at $599.95, a bit more than buying an M249 airsoft donor rifle and custom making one yourself.

m249-1022-saw-kit-reciever

Their M249 SAW kit also comes with another product they produce, called the Hypergat trigger system, which is also sold separately at $49.95. It’s pretty much a rapid fire trigger attachment that’s powered with the guns recoil, or externally with a drill from what I can gather. I’m honestly still a bit confused with exactly how it functions, the few videos I was able to find about them were a bit vague (see below). Anyone ever use one of these? Hypergat claims their trigger attachment will allow the shooter to fire their gun at between 600 to 1000 rpm and is ATF legal. Checkout their website at Hypergat.net for more info.

Timney Tavor Trigger

timney-tavor-trigger-kit

I got to fondle a Tavor SAR at the SHOT Show with Timney’s new trigger kit installed. The Tavor is one of the hottest new rifles on the market right now, and in my opinion it’s the best bullpup design to date. However it still suffers from one of the major flaws that all bullpups seem to have, a bad trigger pull. While the Tavor’s trigger isn’t horrible, it’s actually decent for a bullpup, it still leaves much to be desired. Timney’s new trigger for the Tavor helps remedy much of the squishiness and play of the trigger. It was a huge improvement over the stock trigger. The Timney kit drops right in and features a crisp 4lb trigger break. They retail at $352.95 and should ship sometime in March 2014.
